Threats on Campus

Team and Mission Statement

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is committed to preventing violence and promoting a campus environment free from behaviors, actions, or language that may cause others to feel physically threatened or in danger; or may result in work disruption, property damage, physical injury, or loss of life; or interfere with the institution’s ability to execute its mission. Safety and security are both personal and shared responsibilities. The collective involvement of every member of the University community is essential to prevention. The mission of the University Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) is to identify and assist at-risk community members who may pose a threat of violence to themselves or others, intervene to avert and/or address the threat and maintain the safety of the situation to reduce risks related to campus violence.

The Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) is an interdisciplinary group of trained professional University staff, convened to evaluate potential physical threats to the campus community.

Concerns about potential threats may be referred to the team through our reporting to the Threat Assessment Reporting Form.

The BIT meets regularly to review all evidence of threatening behavior and to develop strategies for mitigating identified threats. The BIT will monitor potential threats until they are resolved. Additionally, the BIT participates in regular training to ensure they are current with best practices in the area of threat identification and mitigation.
